It is understood from the Ministry of Agriculture that in recent years, import levels of soy bean, cotton and plant oil have been kept high. While the net import volumes of sugar and diary products are going up, the 3 major grain crops have all changed into net import products. Although the net import volumes of grains, especially of rice and wheat are limited, judging from the evolvement of the past 10 years, the trend of major agricultural commodities entering into net import era is obvious.
Statistics have shown that in 2012, net import of cereal was 131.69 million tons, with wheat, corn and rice at 3.415 million, 5.153 million and 2.088 million respectively, hitting new highs. As in the statistics released by the Ministry of Commerce this week, in June soy bean import reached 8.32 million tons, another record high.
